China Sewing Machinery Association Delegation Conducts Specialized Market Research and Exchange in Brazil

To better expand the international market for sewing machinery and enhance industry exchanges and cooperation, the China Sewing Machinery Association(CSMA) organized a delegation to Brazil for specialized market research and exchange activities from August 19 to 24, 2024. The delegation was led by Chen Ji, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CSMA, and included participation from companies such as Qixing, Promaker, and Jema.

During the visit, the delegation conducted field studies at renowned Brazilian sewing equipment distributors such as WELTTEC COMERCIAL IMPORTADORA E EXPORTADORA LTDA, COMERCIAL STARTE LTDA, and SUN SPECIAL COM E REP LTDA, conducted in-depth discussions with these companies' leaders on trends in the sales of sewing machine products in Brazil and the market’s service needs. The delegation also visited the well-known clothing company EMPHASIS in São Paulo, where they observed firsthand the typical applications of sewing machinery in the product line. Additionally, the delegation attended the 2024 São Paulo International Textile and Business Meeting(GoTex 2024) and the 2024 Brazilian Fair for Textile Industry(FEBRATEX 2024). The delegation also met with the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABITS) to discuss industry development trends.

During the research and visits, the delegation learned that as the leading economy in South America and a significant emerging global market, Brazil has a population exceeding 200 million and a GDP per capita close to 10,000 U.S. Dollar, and is one of the world's major textile and apparel producers, with 24,300 textile enterprises and nearly 2,000 sewing equipment distribution and service companies. The annual production of garments in Brazil reaches 6.3 billion pieces, making it one of the top five textile and apparel manufacturing countries globally. After years of economic stagnation, Brazil's economy has fully recovered in recent years. As the second-largest employer in Brazil (with 18.9% of the country’s manufacturing workforce directly employed in the industry), there is strong demand for textile and apparel machinery, presenting vast market potential.

China is Brazil's largest supplier of sewing equipment. Data shows that in the first half of 2024, China's exports of sewing equipment to Brazil exceeded $70 million, a 45.6% increase. With the development of the economy and the rapid iteration of industrial technology, the demand for sewing machinery in Brazil is becoming increasingly diversified, with high-efficiency and intelligent sewing equipment particularly favored in the market.

The delegation gathered and organized detailed information from various parties and introduced the recent development in China’s sewing machinery industry, as well as the application of mainstream product technologies. Chen Ji emphasized that, with the continuous adjustment of the global economy and industrial structure, China's sewing machinery industry, focusing on independent innovation and the deep integration of new generation information technology with the industry, has actively participated in globalization. The industry has successfully optimized its industrial structure and transformed its development model, creating a group of well-known brands and enterprises with independent intellectual property rights and market service capabilities. China has become a major global supplier and service provider of sewing machinery. The foundation for Sino-Brazilian economic and trade cooperation is very solid, with highly complementary trade structures between the two countries. Brazil also has a relatively complete textile and apparel industry chain and abundant labor resources, offering tremendous development prospects for the textile and apparel industry. Going forward, the Chinese sewing machinery industry will further strengthen its response to and service of the Brazilian market, striving to assist Brazilian textile and apparel companies in enhancing their equipment technology levels and production capacities, and aiming to play a more significant and effective role in the development of Brazil's textile and apparel industry.
