To better respond to the national "Belt and Road" development strategy, understand the development of the textile and garment industry in key markets, and the changing demand for sewing equipment upgrades, the China Sewing Machinery Association recently organized a delegation to Southeast Asia for market research and exchange activities, aiming to assist enterprises in expanding their overseas markets.

From April 10 to 13, led by Chairman Yang Xiaojing of the China Sewing Machinery Association, the delegation, consisting of key representatives from 11 companies including Jack, Yida, Wenzhou Shenhai, Ningbo Tongxin, Dongguan Chuanghui, Dongguan Baolun, Jiangxi Hefeng, Zhejiang Anqi, Ningbo Aorinong, Fenghua Yuning, and Dongyang Taiji, conducted a specialized exchange activity in Malaysia, with a total of 16 participants.
In recent years, Malaysia has become an important user and transshipment market for China’s sewing machinery industry. As garment enterprises from various countries continue to move their operations to Malaysia, the new development trends of the Malaysian textile and garment market have attracted the attention of Chinese sewing machinery companies.

During this visit, the delegation paid a special visit to the Malaysian Textile Manufacturers Association (MTMA), where they held discussions with MTMA President Chen Songshu, Executive Director Hasnah Binti Ahmad, Executive Secretary Chen Yunyang, and local dealer representatives.

MTMA is the only government-recognized textile and garment industry organization in Malaysia. During the visit, both sides held in-depth discussions on the development status of Malaysia's garment and related industries, industrial layout, the application of sewing equipment, and training activities. The delegation also visited local printing and dyeing and garment factories, NOHAD SON BHD, and sewing equipment dealer, Dama Needle Trade Co., Ltd. in Selangor, where they conducted on-site inspections and further exchanges.

Chairman Yang Xiaojing introduced the history of the China Sewing Machinery Association and the achievements it has led in China’s sewing machinery industry over the past 40 years in areas such as technology and service. He particularly analyzed the new situation and emerging issues related to the export of Chinese sewing machinery products to the Malaysian market. It is reported that in 2024, China’s sewing machinery exports to Malaysia reached nearly 100 million USD, an increase of 56.64% year-on-year, making Malaysia China’s 10th largest export market. Over the past decade, China’s sewing machinery exports to Malaysia have grown by 148.62%.
He stated that Malaysia is currently in a period of transformation and upgrading for sewing equipment, with increasing demands for process digitization and production automation. Going forward, the China Sewing Machinery Association will strengthen communication and cooperation with MTMA, establish an information exchange and cooperation mechanism, work with local sewing machinery businesses to jointly carry out sewing machine skill training, and provide better quality, more user-friendly, and more efficient products and services for garment users. He also expressed hope for both sides to jointly promote exchanges and cooperation between sewing machine and garment enterprises from both China and Malaysia, and to further enhance and strive for a win-win integration of the two industries. Meanwhile, domestic enterprises need to further expand their overseas markets to cope with the increasingly complex international economic environment due to ongoing tariff hikes.
